Though the meals only consist of fruit and vegetables, Shojin Ryori can also be filling and savory. In Japan, travelers could stay in temple lodgings and enjoy Shojin Ryori meals during the stay. The most common Shojin Ryori’s ingredient is tofu. Tofu is Kyoto’s local specialty. One of the most popular tofu dishes that is widely available in many restaurants is Yudofu. Yudofu is a soft tofu dish simmered with broth from vegetables. Arashiyama and Nanzenji districts in Kyoto are particularly well known for their tofu cuisine.
