Osaka Castle



What should we do when we visit Osaka? Of course, there are many things to do besides shopping, eating delicious foods and going to the mall or amusement park. Visiting Osaka Castle is a very great idea. This is one of the most famous historical buildings in Japan. The castle played a major role during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Osaka Castle covers approximately 60,000 square meters or 15 acres. The main tower of the castle is situated on a plot of land around one square kilometer. The central castle building is a five stories building on the outside and eight stories building inside. One interesting aspect is the base of the castle. It built on a top of a tall stone foundation so that the attackers cannot reach the castle easily. Within Osaka Castle, there are thirteen structures that have been added as important cultural assets. Here are some of them: Ote-mon Gate, Sakura-mon Gate, Ichiban-yagura Turret, Inui-yagura Turret, Rokuban-yagura Turret, Sengan Turret, Kinmeisui Well, Kinso Storehouse and many others.

Near Osaka Castle, there is Nishinomaru Garden. You will be impressed by the beauty of the garden. The lawn garden has 600 cherry trees, a tea house, the former Osaka Guest House and nice view of the castle tower. The best time to visit Osaka Castle is during the spring. You can enjoy your bento while watching the blooming Sakura trees. The garden is closed on Monday and New Year holidays. It opens from 09.00 to 17.00. During the cherry blossom season, the park opens until 20.00.

How to reach Osaka Castle? You do not have to worry. Japan is a country which has super neat transportation system. The recommended way to approach the castle is Tanimachi 4-chrome Station along the Tanimachi Subway Line and Chuo Subway Line. Moreover, it is also recommended to approach from the closest JR station, Osakajokoen Station on the JR Loop Line. It is only 10 minute from JR Osaka Station.
