If you’re planning on traveling to Japan and wonder where to stay in Kyoto, check out some tips on how to find the most suitable accommodation in Kyoto. There different types of accommodations in Kyoto depending on your preferences. But the first thing you need to do is deciding the area of your chosen accommodation. There are several convenient areas which you can choose including the downtown Kyoto, central Kyoto, southern Higashiyama, Kyoto Station area, Arashiyama and also Kibune. Each area has their own plus side and downside.

Downtown Kyoto

Downtown Kyoto is undoubtedly the best place to stay in the city. Here, you will be in walking distance from hundreds of shops, restaurants, bars, and also the two train lines and the city’s subway lines. Not only that, downtown Kyoto is also in walking distance from the two main sightseeing in Kyoto, which is the Northern Higashiyama and Southern Higashiyama. If you’re interested in staying in this particular area, you should checkout available accommodation through some famous hotel booking sites.

Southern Higashiyama

The Southern Higashiyama is a nice place to stay as well. This place is quite near from the city’s most awesome sights and there are a lot of restaurants, especially if you’re staying near Gion. The best thing about this place is the fact that it’s a great place with great atmosphere for strolling in the evening.

 

Central Kyoto

Central Kyoto is basically a huge area in the middle of Kyoto. You could easily found nice hotel in the areas which are not too far from the subway lines or from downtown. The bad thing about staying in Central Kyoto is that you will most likely need to travel a bit to the primary sightseeing districts or even just to find restaurants and nightlife entertainment.

Beside the area, you should decide the type of accommodation. You can find very cheap guesthouses to five star international hotels in Kyoto. Not only modern types of accommodations, there are plenty of ryokans to choose from if you’re into Japanese traditional inns. Ryokan is a perfect place to stay if you want to experience the real Japanese home. Though ryokans seems like traditional homes, this type is place is usually more expensive than modern accommodation. When you’re staying in a ryokan, they will not only provide a room and breakfast like in regular accommodation, yet they will also serve you meals. So, if you’re not in a tight budget and you still figuring out where to stay in Kyoto, a ryokan can be a good choice.
